transmission?

hello everyone. i recently picked up a 2002 gmc sierra 1500 z71 5.3l it is a beautiful truck and runs great but i have a question just before it shifts into 3rd gear it seems like it does a surge of power then shift and even then the shift seems almost slow and has excessive amounts of rev in between like i would say by about 200 rpm or somthing in that area. it only does it when your applying the throttle a little harder and running the motor to shift around 3000 or when its wide open its more noticeable. does it in to/haul mode does not seem to matter. sorry for the long post. i am still learning about these new trucks give me my old 94 i can fix it lol this not as much :P

You can check the TPS with a volt meter.. think it is .5 volts with throttle closed and about 5 wide open.. Attach the meter and slowly open the throttle and watch the voltage, should be a smooth increase any sudden drops or increases replace it.
I base the voltages on my vette manual and on the voltage on my 95 GMC 5.7 if I am way off on the voltage someone jump in and correct me.

Scav.

so i took it to the tranny shop because in town they do free test drives. he thinks it might be alittle ball that falls into a hole in the tranny that causes it to shift or somthign like that. he thinks that the whole the ball falls into is oblonged or somthing. i go back in on monday for him to hook up the scanner at no charge. its just so weird lol

I would think not for sure but by 2002 the computer does all the shifting with solenoids I dont think there are check balls any more but I could and probably am way wrong.
