| i dont see what the problem is. dont they put that there to help lessen resistance incurred during the compression stroke?? or is that an oiler passage for the cylinder?? i think i have some masonite and some industrial adhesive somewhere. quick fix?? |

| That piston looks bad, Well I did my compression check and got 4 cylinders with 120-122, and 1 cylinder at 0 and 3 cylinders would shoot the gauge up to about 60 and fall down to 0 just as fast. So it looks like the motor needs to be rebuilt. Any good motor rebuilders out there that need to make some extra money close to North Jackson Ohio. |

| You'll never know for sure until you pull the heads. I'd do that first, before I spent the money on a new engine.

| My question would be, are all the bad 4 cylinders all on the same bank?

| Its not going to be a simple as intake. Headgasket in the very least. But it would be nice to know which cylinder is 0 and which other 3 will go up to 60 then drop to zero immedialty. Sounds to me some sort of catastrophic failure, not a worn engine. As mud mentioned, a hole in a piston, or a large crack in a head or block somewhere. Even with a head gasket, you usually lose compression in 2 cylinders at the most, and thats if the gasket blew between cylinders.

| His first post says #1 is 0 and #3 is 120, so it's not all the same bank.

| True, if he has the #'s right. Sure sounds strange though. I have sure never heard of a compression test go this way. Being it has 4 cylinders on differant banks being low to no compression, I would think its possible the timing chain could have jumped time, and the valve opening and closing in relation to piston at TDC and BDC is letting compression out of the cylinder instead of building it up.
