Exclamation 1997 Sierra Z-71 ?'s

Hi everyone I own a 97' GMC 1500 sierra Z-71 Stepside (62,500 miles) with a 350 /automatic trans. and manual (floor) 4wd shifter. I bought the truck from a local dealer and have a few questions I'm hoping to get answered.
1) Due to the low miles for that year truck how can I double check that would the computer show miles or do i have to trust the odometer?

2) The fuel pump is pretty loud , I've been told that is normal for 96-99(classic).

3) At wide open throttle when the truck is already rolling 15+ mph it fells as if the tranny is slipping. The truck already had a K&N Cold Air induction kit as well as Flowmaster mufflers I was curious as if the previous owner may have installed a shift kit or modified the comp. Any ideas ? BTW if I dont hold the pedal to the floor I seems to shift fine.
Thanks for any help you can offer,
Jeff G.

as far as the mileage, trust the odometer. it is likely that it wasnt driven much. i think that the fuel pump is going out. it shouldnt make any noise if it is getting enough fuel through it. i have not heard of any exceptions to this. i cant tell you anything about the tranny. well, there's my $.02. good luck

you're trans. is not a 350 unless it has been changed out which is doubtful, what you have or should have is a 4L60E 4 speed automatic and what you could be experencing is the converter lockup.two ways to tell, see if it's different when cold or lightly apply the brake to make the brake light stay on while driving and see it it still does what it's doing, if not, it's most likely normal

thanks for the replys . will get on road and test the converter today. when I listed 350 I meant the motor is the 350. Although I would like the old turbo 350 tranny , that thing was pretty tough . Just bad mileage without the overdrive gear.

Thanks Again,
Jeff G

The main problem we have found on the 97s,is check engine light and harsh shift.Reason being code 1870,transmission component slipping, as a result of a worn valve body which can be repaired without replacing. It may be to your advantage, to add a good trans. additive
