Exclamation 1989 GMC 2500... a couple problems are worrying me

im now having a diff problem... when i drive aggressivly my "service engine soon" light comes on and the performance of the truck goes down... my oil pressure gauge is hectic too, it jumps up and down... sometimes loosing all pressure then coming back. very odd... i heard it was a common problem.. lemme know what u think. when i turn off the car and turn it back on the light goes off for a while... but the "check gauges" light is hectic... it comes on when the oil pressure is down, turns off when it goes back up

How long has it been since the truck has been serviced? But yeah I agree it might just be a sensor that is buggin out.

Agreed, the low oil pressure reading and the check engine light are most likely connected. It is designed to bring a check engine light on at really low oil pressure. i suspect the oil pressure sending unit is faulty. Try a direct reading gauge to check the pressure then you will kow for sure if it is a sending unit, or low oil pressure. Hope for the first of the two.
