valve cover breather tube???

I was working on my truck this summer and pulled out this weird looking tube. I took it to several auto parts stores and even a mechanic. No one knew what it was. They all assumed that it was a breather tube or a PCV Valve but the ones for the vehicle didn't fit. I went to the dealership and found out that this part is originally on the Valve cover. Unfortunately I used needle nose pliers to remove it from the tube and it was too bent to put back in the valve cover. I put a socket in the whole that has a passageway although not very tight.

I think this is giving me problems in starting my vehicle. I am not getting enough gas when I initially start the vehicle.
afterward I am fine. My vehicle starts up quickly in cold weather but is a pain when it is warm. This problem happened not long after this incident. My only option is to get another valve cover from the dealership or a junkyard. Any other options? My truck is a 1999 GMS Sonoma 4 cylinder 2WD.

auto zone sells different sizes of these tubes. the flexible ones.
it will give you a rough idling problem but not a starting problem.

Umm, I disagree. If it is getting too much air and is a big enough vacuum leak starting will be affected.

If I remember correctly, mine had a little diaphragm on it to allow warm air out from the valve covers and into the breather element.

That is the reason that I said that it would not affect starting.

A vacuum leak will cause the vehicle to be affected at start.
