Question Lift

I'm lookin to lift my truck to get some more clearence. The suspension is stock for a 1996 sle 4x4. I've looked at body or susp. lifts. I'd like to keep some mileage...and i don't want to put bigger tires on it....i'd just like a little lift....1 - 2 1/2in. Anything i can tweak? or should i look for a lift kit? I'm sick of gettin stuck in tiny amounts of snow.

body lift doesnt lift anything or give any clearance, Just bigger openings between the body and frame. Looks terrible. Go with a suspension lift, It actually increases ground clearance

mine's a 97. lookin' on getting a lift on mine too. if you're getting stuck in snow you might try putting weight in the back. you'd be suprised in the difference. plan on spending 1000-1200 on a decent lift package, that's if you install it yourself. i never was a fan of body lifts either, don't like being able to see all that frame. small tires look wierd under a high truck. i'd go with atleast a 30 or 31, shouldn't be that big of a difference in gas mileage. just my opinion, everyone has their own style.

I was thinking that...ya, i'll definately go for a suspension lift.

My truck is different now, but the suspension is the same. How bad would a 2" lift look on it with the current set up? My dad had a '98 Z71 and it sat prob about 1/2 - 3/4" higher than my truck.

a 6 inch skyjacker lift cost 1,500 for gmc fullsize truck like mine and will4831's. a 6 inch pro comp lift cost 1,400, for a ford it cost 730 and thats for a 2-wheel drive. it all depends on how high you want to go, the year and make of your truck and the quality of the parts. I've seen guys rideing on hockey pucks to lift their truck, thats not quality to me.

2 inch would look nice with those tires, might want to go a little taller in the rear, looks like it sags some from the pic. leaf springs must have got tired from all the hard work.

my friend got his 6" susp. lift off e-bay brand new, for like $675, granted it wasnt a skyjacker or rancho or anything i've ever heard of, but it seems to be a good lift.....

First off buy it from a reputable dealer. There are alot of junk lifts out there with real thin weak metal holding the suspension together. If you pay a little more it is usually for the development process and therefore get a better product (USUALLY) If your dads truck is just a little higher than your I would suspect the torsion bars have been adjusted up on his.
