Replacing ignition key switch

1982 GMC Jimmy
Pulled off steering wheel, small plastic cover which is next also
I cannot get the column lock plate off, I turned the switch to the on position which releases lock pin, but plate still will not slide off?

Any suggestions? Is there something else here that should be released 1st?

you should be able to push in on it and there will be a retaining ring holding it in place that you need to remove. you can rent a tool from autozone that will help you out greatly.
