18" Rim advice needed

I have a black 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE 4x4 crew w/ v-max V8 & 17x7.5 stock rims & 265x70x17" tires. I just ordered 18x9" Centerline Wilderness Flint series hi-polished rims & intend to use 285x60x18 tires. I am slightly concerned that the wheels may stick out from the fender since they are 5.25" back space with a +6mm offset. My dealer said they won't void the warranty but they won't pass inspection if they stick out from the fender. They advised me to keep my old tires/rims for inspection but I wanted to sell them while still new to recoup some of the costs.

My truck came with ugly dull black wheel flares that didn't color match the onyx black & are also very "boxy" looking. I have seem them look good on a lifted long bed truck with 33" monster tires but they just didn't look good on my truck so I took them off. Centerline recommends I put the flares back on if the wheels stick out but I really don't like the flares. I have seen chrome aftermarket flares from a mail order co that appeared to be smaller & rounder but who knows how they would look in person....

The good news is Centerline is willing to cancel the order or let me return them as long as I don't install any tires on them. So my question is, has anybody used a similar sized rim & if not do you think these will stick out from the fender?
Thanks,
Doug

Theoretical calculations indicate wheel/tire will stick out 0.5"-0.75".
Trimming of air dam seems highly likely. Looks like I am going to need to install those ugly wheel flares every inspection. Maybe won't look so bad after I color match them? I seen some lower profile flares from aftermarket. Also seen cool stainless ones that may just stick out 0.5" or so.

Too hard to tell about clearance issue without having rims in hand......

After talking to several GMC dealers I have learned that the bulg of the tire can stick out but its the actual tread that cannot stick out past the fender......

Sure seems like I am talking to myself on this forum but the point is to share info & state opinions to help others right? Well here is my experience:

I got the Yokahama Geolander 052 285x60x18 tires which are said to be approx .2" smaller diameter than my stock Bridgestone 265x70x17 but with less tread depth they look even smaller. They are an overall nice looking tire. Even with the 18x9 Centerline Wilderness Flint series +6mm offset rims there is absolutely no fitment or rubbing problems at all. I actually have more clearance with the new tires/rims.

The fit is aggressive looking & near perfect & the tires only stick out slightly from the fenderwell in the front but little to no tread sticks out so I don't expect any inspection problems. The installer said it would pass inspection.

Only problem I noticed with the tires is they seem as slippery as my GoodYear Wrangler RT/S tires that I had on my Dodge Dakota which were down right dangerous on curves when it was raining or snowing. Ratings were very good but reviews were poor-avg on TireRack so not sure how that can be.

Looks like I will have to keep my stock tires/rims for winter time & when my Yokahama tires wear out I will look for a better traction tire even if I have to spend more $$
