| Sticky Shifting! My truck, '97 GMC c1500 v6 auto trans, seems to have a couple of problems, the first being that the transmisson is slow to shift from park to reverse. It takes on average about a couple of seconds before it finally shifts. This only occurs when it is first started up. Second is the air conditioning seems to pulse, as in speeds up and slows down over and over, and is can be noticed on almost every speed. Told the blower needs replacing, is that correct? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

| my suburban sometimes does that thing when shifting into reverse. i've found that normally the shifter didnt go all the way in, even though it feels and sounds like it does. but i'm not sure what causes this, i've just learned to deal with it

| Adjust the linkage, change fluid and filter. As for the A/C is it the blower speeds that change or is the compresser cycling??

| on older model trannys, where the linkage bolted to the tranny. it has long holes where you can loosen the bolt to the tranny and move the linkage back and forth to adjust it. but if you have it out of adjustment, nothing would set right. it might not go into park because you have it too far forward. i doubt that is his problem though. |

| For the A/C it seems to be the blower speeds. As for the tranny, I not sure if there is a linkage to adjust, not positive, but I will take a look at the fluid and filter. Thanks for all the help everyone!

| I had a Dakota that did this when cold. Was told by mechanic that the internal o-rings were leaking or the valves in the valve body were sticking. I siphoned some fluid off through the filler tube using some clear vinyl hose, and then added an additive called Trans-X to the tranny. I ran the truck about 5 miles and parked it overnight. The next morning it was back to normal. I drove the truck an additional 500 miles to let the TransX do it's job, and then changed the filter and fluid out. No more slow shifting for the next 12k miles until I traded it for my V8 Silverado. Just might work for you too. Stan |

| Change oil and filter and add some additive that OReilly sells it red in color I forgot the name of it. It cleans your valve body really good. |

i dont agree with the additives thing. ATF is the most detergent solvent there is. additives just boost that and ive seen it ruin trannies. i would just change the fluid and filter.
