My truck is giving me fits... It is a 2 wheel drive with a Vortec 6... It's burning up fuel pump relays...

It all started after I swapped fuel pumps... I used a factory pump for the replacement... About 5,000 miles after I swapped the pump the relay started giving me a problem... I did replace the relay when I did the pump the first time...

I've run through 5 relays in the last 700 miles... The problem is driving me nutz...

Any ideas?

All my grounds are good. The relay is really hot when it fails and has overheated the block where the relay plugs in but it still receives a new relay, it has not melted it out...

i'd double check the pump and wires. Might of pinched a wire replacing the pump causing a short.

thanks for the advice... I'll check it when I get back home...

I have replaced the pump twice and each time I've elected to pull the bed since the tank was full... Tried to be careful but you never know... I'll strip back some of the wire loom and see..

The relay issue has been an on going problem for the last year...

Just recently it started burning them up quickly... I've always been on the road and under a deadline so I've never pulled the bed to look around... I've simply put in a relay and headed out again...

The relay supposed to stay on momentarily and then shuts off when the oil pressure is up. The pump will then get its voltage from the oil sender unit. Maybe the relay's not cutting out when it's supposed to. Try changing the oil sender unit. This board's been getting a lot of fuel pump relay posts lately.
