1992 GMC problem

The truck has a 350 and still runs great after 200,000 miles. It has of late failed to start on occasion. It will turn over but not fire. Later, it will fire up just fine. I had a problem with the ignition module just over a year ago. Could this be the same problem and if so, what would cause this to re-occur?

How do you know it's not firing (no spark) on start-up? I'm sure the module is fine after one year. At 200,000 miles, parts are going to start failing -normal wear and tear. If it's not firing it won't start period, let alone later. This means you have spark if it starts at all. You might have another problem all together. You may have the symptom of a failing.....ahem, fuel pump relay.

I wouldn't think it would be the ignition. Is the fuel pump turning on?

I too have a 92 GMC van Vandura 1500 and it is doing exactly the same thing. It first started back in November when I went out, parked the van, came back to start it and it wouldn't. Left it sit for an hour or so and it started. The same thing happened about a month later. Now it is becoming very frequent. When cold, the van starts and after leaving it run for a few minutes, I shut it down and no start. I should mention that when the van doesn't start, there is absolutely no spark and when it cools down there is a spark and it starts. To me it's the ignition module or pick up coil. I sure would appreciate some help here. I should also mention I have close to 197000 Kms and have a 4.3 litre engine.

A '76 Dodge Tradesman 100 I had was doing that, turned out to be a bad ballast resistor.... the GMs don't have those silly things, do they?

Ignition module (A-C Delco Only) Be sure to put the dielectric silcone underneath it before installing!!
