How do I drain radiator.

Hey folks, I need to know how to open the pet **** on the radiator on a 99 GMC Jimmy. I think I located it on the passenger side of the radiator, but it looks like I need some special tool to open it or either it looks broken. Want to make sure so that I don't break it trying to open it.

Thanks, Jeff

should look kinda like a wing nut. Easy to open and close. If it is broken you can buy a new petcock for cheap and replace it. If nothing else take the lower hose loose and let her drain.

Some are a wing nut and some have a square hole in them which a 1/4 in drive extension fits into it and just turn counter clockwise 1/4 turn then it pulls out some

thanks for quick response, however????

Ok guys the 1/4 inch drive was the ticket to opening the drain. I did a quick flush on the system with the heater on full. While I was doing the flush the heater warmed the car great, but now I think the heater core is clogged because it does not heat the car. Should I flush the system again? Should I go with the longer flush process. It may sound cheap but I don't want to flush if it is not going to do anygood. I think the crappy dexcool stuff got too old and glogged it up. The radiator and engine are working fine because the operating temp is perfect.
