Push Button 4x4

What, if anything, is available to change how a 2001 push button system engages. So far it all works fine, but I hate all that has to happen for the 4x4 to engage. I would have rather had the manual shifter, but this truck had everything I wanted EXCEPT THAT.

Whats the problem? You push the button and it should engage.. What do you mean when you say you hate all that has to happen for the 4x4 to engage?

Talking well.........

........... all of my other 4x4's have been manual shifted in and out of 4 wheel drive by pulling the lever into whatever mode you want, be it 4 hi or 4 low and then back to 2 hi. When you push the button on the dash, there are a lot of things that have to happen for it all to work. Transfer case has to engage, drive shaft starts to turn, front axle has to engage. Most of the time it all works fine, but some have problems after a few years with the front end not engaging. Also, if you never put your vehicle in 4 wheel drive until it snows, then it can have problems working. That is why they tell you to put it into 4 wheel drive once in a while. (monthly) Now, I'm not saying that there is anyting wrong with the push button 4x4, I would just prefer a lever to pull so there is less to go wrong. Hope I explained my reason!!

the same things have to happen with the floor shifter. it's just manually controlled instead of electrically controlled. but i'm with you, i'd much rather have a manual shifter

Thumbs up problem solved!

Summit Racing offers a setup with part numbers to cover almost all vehicles. Its called 4x4 Posi-Lok it replaces the thermal linear actuator on GM products...Really nifty because you can engage 4wheel LOW using push button and leave frt axle disengaged to give you low range torque with bind free steering. This unit cost me $180 but it is real peace to know my front axle is in MY control from the dash!

I looked into these but I can't find one for anything later than a 1998. Do they make one for a 2001??
