1990 GMC-- What the heck happened? First of all Hello! This is my first post and I have got a problem. My truck has 223,000 mi. on it and I decided it was time to stick some money in on it or get something else. Rear axle seals leak so took to local yokel for new ones. He found bad carrier bearings so he installed whole kit. Rear transmission seal and U-joints also replaced. He also had a used OEM differential limited slip unit(governer style) at his shop and he installed that. 9 1/2 Hrs. of time at 60.00 per hr.... 866.00 for everything. Well I drove it up town and at 30 to 35 mph I experienced a shimmy that had NEVER been there before. Not severe but you could feel it in the floor board and made the truck crappy to drive. Took it back the next day and he turned the drive shaft section 180'. No help. Told me to drive it for a week and then he might try something else. I had him put it back. Took truck to another more reputable place and they said drive shaft bent and not running true. They took it to St. Louis for straightening. Turned out not bent but way out of balance. Helped a little. But annoying shake still there. They also noticed axle bent. Slight Wheel wobble. Rim fine.Want that replaced anyway. Even if it don't help. I am a little suspicious of local yokel because he made a special trip to cash my check 20 min. after recieving it. AT MY BANK 20 miles away! What should I have checked while in the shop. Right now I am thinken pinion shaft to the drive axle alignment ( Chilten said "DO NOT HAMMER PINION SEAL IN") and maybe differential locker condition and alignment. A far reach might be torque converter bolts. Any and all suggestions welcome. Thanks!

it is not converter bolts if all he got into was the rear seal. i think i would go nuts on your yokel. sounds like he didnt put something in there right. if you say that the axel shaft was bent, he dont something wrong. maybe too many shims on the pinion shaft.

It burns me up when you pay to have something and it ends up mesed up then they want to blame something else is wrong with your stuff and go to replace many of things that's what happens at dealerships anyways GM pays for the parts when it's under warrenty a lot of TECHS are just parts replacers and get away with it.
