i just replaced my head gaskets and intake manifold gaskets, i put it all back together and i marked my timing and it started up but it shakes bad, i wont stop shaking, i dont have a timing light im waiting to get it able to drive to the shop to get timed. could my distributer be off 180? also it kinda smokes when i started it, what is going on?

when in the same position, i have always loosened the distributor bolt and rotated it a little at a time until i thought that the truck was running right. you might have it off one or two teeth also.

i tried turning the distributor, but it run really rough and it gets to the point where it wants to die, it doesnt get any better, would that cancel the theory of skipping a tooth?

i think you may have the fireing order wrong. i did that to my dads old cutlass once, neighbor came over and switched a few plug wires and she ran like a champ.

If it were 180 out it shouldnt run. Sometimes they will but will have a terrible miss/backfiring problem.
