Fuel pump, fuel tank, filler neck, filter... I went to replace the fuel pump in my 1998 2500 a couple weeks back and it turned into discovering that my fuel tank and filler neck were almost rusted through in spots. So three weeks later, and a couple hundred bucks out of my pocket, I had everything to put it back together. It went back in great, hopefully I won't have any mysterious problems come up.

if that had already rusted out, i believe that i would also check other places for rust. i.e. frame.

yeah, it's got some surface rust underneath the truck, but no major areas or rot.....that i've found yet. i just noticed i have a small fuel leak where the fuel line exits the fuel filter. i had to cut the old fuel filter out because i couldn't get the nuts to loosen on either end of the filter. i bought a different style filter, so i could attach a piece of rubber hose before and after the filter. it looks like i need to tighten the clamp on the exit line from the filter.

i dont know if i would use rubber hose on the fuel line considering it operates at such a high pressure. if you were using a carbed system or even a TBI, i might could see that.

| They make high pressure rubber hose. you'll only have a couple inches on each side do you'll be ok. Double up the clamps though.. Were your tank straps bad? one of mine just snapped on me one day. lucky I didn't blow up. walked out to the truck and the tank was hanging 6" off the ground in the rear... oh dear!

i tightened up the hose clamps on the small pieces of hose and it seemed to do the trick. the tank straps seemed to be fine, i had a good look at them while i was up under the truck.
