Just picked up a 2007 2500HD 4-Dr STEALTH GRAY, 6.0 4x4 3;73 GEARS 6-SPEED AUTO w/most of the bells and whistles. Traded '01 Durmax. Major concern is mileage???????? SO far 11.9mpg, at 65mph w/minimal stop and go. Durmax got consistant 19-20 mpg. THis is not making me a happy camper. Truck looks awsome and considering I ordered it. It is just what I wanted..........DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT KIND OF MILEAGE THIS THING SHOULD BE GETTING??????????

Let me start by welcoming you to the site; however, you are probably not going to like what you are going to hear. 6.0L gas engine getting about 12 mpg, yeah that is about right. Lift it, or stick some gear in it, or anything else, and you might expect it to get a little worse. You should see a small increase as the engine goes through break in, but you should not have expectations of gas mileage like the diesel was getting. Nothing you can do will ever get that gas motor to pull like a diesel, make the same torque as the diesel, which means it will not tow like the diesel, and for sure it will neveer get the same mileage as the diesel. Sorry to be the guy with the bad news, but those are the biggest reasons why diesel guys / girls (Ashley) are diesel guys / girls (Ashley).

Thanks for the welcome. This seems to be very well run site......And I guess thanks for the Info on the mileage. I undoubtedly did not do enough research. But honestly I would have thought that with the new 6speed..Quote "2 overdrives" that this alone would have made up for what I new was bad mileage on the older 6.0's. I think I already new the answer, but was needing someone to confirm it. I had already notice that the RPM were not where I thought they should be. 65 mph @ just under 2000 rpm in 6th gear.... Oh well........Anyone want to buy a Very Purdy GMC??????????????LOL

We could use a guy with some Duramax experience, stick around, I am sure your history with the Duramax could be usefull to some of the guys around here. A few of us drive Powerstrokes, so our, well, my experience anyway with the Duramax is limited. See you on the boards....

Well at least the truck is getting better mileage. The best i have obtained was 16.2 with a 6.0L. Glad you are going back to the diesel, hope you don't take too big a loss on the truck you just bought.

I just picked up my 2007 2500HD 4x4 crew cab reg bed with 6.0L auto trans and 3.73 gears and I was very dissapointed too. getting about 12-13 mpg, but it's only got 300 miles on it. I was hoping to get 15-16. I was misled by the GMC sales brochere that indicated a active fuel management system as standard, but I found out after buying this truck its only available on the 1500 5.3L or 6.0L max engine. The Duramax engine was an additional $8000, thats alot of gas.

i have a 4x4 crew cab and a friend of mine has the 2wd reg cab and there seems to be a pretty big difference in mileage between the two, obvously the weight being the difference. i do about 12 mpg and he claims about 15. i cant even imagine what the 8.1 does for mileage. | |
