should have recieved an e-mail from summit, check your spam box.
i think i would rather pay the $100-200 to have the heads done. i don't have the steady hand and the more i concentrate the more my hand shakes. doing carb work is such a pain for me due to that problem. i believe the 5.3 uses a 64cc chamber and is the reason i have taken so long on getting this build rolling. i'm going to have to run high octane due to the compression and not running an EGR system.

mail, what mail?? i have no mail.
why dont you do the work yourself?? just have to keep measuring to keep each chamber at the same CC. dont know what you are having done to the heads but if you are running a thin gasket and small CC combustion chambers, that is getting you into a tight compression. you plan on running this thing on high octane gas all the time??

think i'll go with these instead of the copper gaskets.

whats wrong with bowl work??
as much as i am spending on this engine, i would still like to keep a budget. i planned for 3 grand and pretty sure i'm gonna be 1 grand over budget already.
$700 for engine
$800 for valvetrain
$2000 for rotating assembly
$300 for pcm tune
???? headers
???? timing chain/gears
???? master gasket kit
???? head work
???? block work

nevermind, i found it.
a mismatch at the bottom of the port tends to impede the reverse flow of the exhaust at lower RPM. this helps with low end torque without compromising top end output. might be something to look into when purchasing headers. something like that would be very beneficial in your application.

whats wrong with bowl work?? they sell the bits fairly cheap at any welding store and then all you would need is the tube for measuring the combustion chamber. i would hope that you do this as while you where in there, you could port out the intake runners a bit. i have also seen where people will adjust the exhaust runner where it meets up to the header where they dont match up. supposedly, this is supposed to help with something as it creates a swirling vortex of terror when exhaust gases leave the head. dont ask me what it does cause i would spend all day looking for that book.
i am really excited to see how this turns out. if i get this other car, i plan on starting my build. dont know if i will do like you though and build an LS though.

thought about these to control compression ratio instead of doing bowl work on the heads.
