I'd think an OD trans would work good. If I had to guess, you have what, 390 gears in that truck? What trans you going with? I'd think a NV3500 would go, but aren't those 1 piece bell housing w/ the case and not in BPO bell housing, but you could probably get by with a bulltet proof NV4500. I am think they bolt up just like a M21, M22, SM465, SM420 etc. Bell housing is seperate, and I see you already have the BPO manual Bell.

There's a big Dana 60 posi under it now that I want to keep. It has a 3.54 ratio, & that's the lowest gear I can get for it (a 3.07 would be better). I was looking at Auto Gear's OO muncie.
What's the NV4500?

The NV4500 is what GM used to replace the well known Granny Gear SM465 with. It still have the granny gear, but its a 5 speed, and the 5 gear gives you a .73 overdrive. It a New Venture trans hence the NV model #. Who is also in bed with Get Rag. Although I was always afaid to try a Get Rag transmission. With a name like that, I assumed it must leak alot and you Get Rag, to clean it up.

That is funny. Get Rag
Will it bolt up like a regular muncie? Does it have the external shift linkage?

I do beleive it bolts up like a muncie, but nope, its a top loader on the linkage. Man, I am not getting any idea's on OD manual trans with external linkage. Surely, Tremec must make something that would be external in an OD. But anything Tremec is going to be high dollar, you can count on that.

Doh, wait a minute, I just realized, you are probably talking about external linkage on the clutch?? Yeah Yeah, I do believe the NV4500 will work with extrenal linkage clutch. There are several designs on the clutch that it would work with I'd think. My dad has that trans in his 94 Chev 1 ton. I can not recall if its linkage or hyd clutch. I know its a stiff pedal, so I am assuming its linkage.
But, I did just check Tremec, they are all top loaders trans too.

The trans that I was looking at is the M21Y, which is a custom Muncie from Auto Gear, here's the link Auto Gear Equipment - Muncie Product Line

Seems like a good choice. So its be like an M21 but with an OD? I did not see a price for it, but I bet its not cheap. I like manual trans myself, but it just seems to me Autos are so much cheaper to build, more plentiful and can be adapted easier with cable shifters etc. I'd be intersted to see how your truck would run with a properly built 200r4. Seems strange that its supposed to be a good trans when the THM200 and THM200C were metric junkers. But the 200R4 is supposedly good and comes only in Universal bell housing for Chev and BPO. Where the 700r4 is Chev only. So the 200R4 is the Auto OD alternative for BPO and Cad enthusiasts.

Yeah, I was also looking at that too. Art Carr makes a HD one, called Ultimate 200R4 Art Carr 2004R Performance Transmission, Racing Shifters and Torque Converters
It's around $1800. The Auto Gear M21 is also at $1800. It just goes up after that. TKO's get up there too & don't even ask me what Gear Vendors quoted me for thier OD tailshaft, I think it was $3500

Oh yeah, Gear Vendors is a no brainer stay away from. Probably a great product, but way to much money. You'd have to save a whole lotta fuel to pay for one of those and I just don't think they are worth it.
