What's the NV4500?
Leave them same gears so you can blow away some of these new trucks from nowadays anyways your going with a five speed they should be fine remember that's one big engine use it like one.
Good luck! GMC
PS-My 1992 GMC had a five speed manuel trans on it now I wish my truck now had a munice in it that would be awesome.

Yeah, I'm gonna leave the Dana alone. The only problem I have with it is not knowing what it's out of. When I get brake parts it's always a mystery. I need to go behind the parts counter & match up what they have in stock. I do think it came out of a late 60's 3/4 ton GMC, but those are 8 lug (this one is 6)

Here's some pics of the front side of it. As you can see, the orig shock mounts were not used.

I like Muncies too. That one I was refering to is a custom 4 speed overdrive muncie. They spread the gears out far to make it overdrive, so it's more like a 3-speed with OD. It shouldn't be a problem behind the big block Olds with all the torque it will produce.

Thanks for the warm welcome

Look at the rearend there should be a number on it so that you can see what it's out of. Also I can't wait to hear and see the video of that engine & trans on the truck it's going to be killer.

I was finally able to check our your K heads too. Those are a bit rare. I had not heard or seen of K heads. So you got the big valves in them I assume? Hopefully you got the flat top or very small dished pistons not the cereal bowls dished. Need that compression to run a mild cam and make all the low rpm torque you can since Olds don't like high rpm. I am finding out, about 5500 is to be your redline unless you want to spend a small fortune in your bottom end. I think you had told me in the past in an email the same didn't you? When you say the tallest gear you can go with in it is 3.54, is that because of the carrier you have? I am fairly certain you can get taller gears for Dana 60. But hey, what's wrong with 3.54's? I think thats a perect gear for a high torque low rpm 1/4 mile truck. If not, run a bit taller tire. I think all I'd do is make sure I had a good locker in it, and hold on tight, cuz it'll be every which way but straight with that light rear end. It'll be wicked ride and fun to drive.

Yeah, I can't wait til I get this new 455 running. The K heads aren't too common. They were intended for marine use & later W-30 cars. I'm gonna have them ported. I plan on keeping it under 5500 rpm. I haven't got the pistons yet, but they will be flat tops, around 10:1. The cam will be around 230 deg at .050"
I'll keep you guys posted

Ummm, I'd think you could go with a bigger cam than that with that kind of compression. And you'd probably want to go bigger so you have some valve overlap to lose a little of that compression and run pump gas. Even the W-30 cam is 308 degrees isn't it? Maybe do like a 280 or 292 duration is my plan in mine. I will using small valve C heads stock, no porting other than to remove the AIR bump in the head on the exhaust ports. I also intend to use the small dish pistons, like the 68 455 pistons. The dish is very small, like 7 or 8 cc., and I think the biggo dish in like the 73 and later models is like 16 or 18 cc. I do believe that small dish will still give you a 10.25-10.5 :1 in the 455 cu in.

I think the advertised duration is around 280 (& 230 at 050" lift). I was actually thinking about getting a real w-30 cam, but it's real rough - something like 326 deg adv duration (the 308 is the w-31 cam). It would sound really nice tho. This site has all the good factory cams

When you do your heads, make sure to fill the exhaust crossover. Check the FAQ section in this site - really good info on Olds
