95 Dodge Ram 1500 quit on the road

This is my first post - it seems there is tons of help here. I am going to need it to get through my dodge truck experience. Here goes - I filled up the tank today and drove 40 miles then stopped. Started back up again a few hours later and about 20 miles into it - it died suddenly on the highway. Three pops(sounded like backfire) and I was with no power and the engine shut off. I pulled over and it was firing but would not start. After 3 hours of waiting and trying to turn it over - nothing. I poured down a bottle of STP gas treatment and a bottle of rubbing alcohol to see if it could help loosen the water hypothosis I had. ...nothing.......I had to have it towed.............still not firing...any thoughts

Have you checked for Spark or fuel. Thats where i would start.
