| Newbie Here!! Hello everyone! I used to own a 1996 Chevy Silverado 2WD. I did alot of custom work to it, but ended up selling it last year to a couple in Ireland. Then I bought a car, then sold that and bought a Jeep. Now I am looking to sell my Jeep and buy myself another truck. I was looking at a 1994 F-150, Ram 1500, or a Chevy 1500. Basically I am looking for a cheap reliable extended cab 4x4 to get me throught the next couple of years. I will be doing alot of off-roading and putting a ton of miles on it and hauling alot of stuff. I figure with my budget (about $4000-$5000) I can get the truck I want with about 100,000 miles on it, maybe a little less or more. So my basic question here is what one is the most reliable and best for going off road and hauling alot of different loads between those three, and why? I figure that I do not need a diesel or anything bigger than a 150 or 1500. I have heard great things about the Fords but not much about Chevys or Dodges. So if you can, give me what the ups and downs are of each one, and what one you think is best, and why. Thanks for you help in advance. If you have any questions regarding my needs, feel free to ask. | Wow, this board does not get alot of action does it? Oh well, I have to sell my Jeep first anyway. But I was thinking. How reliable is the average 95 Chevy 1500 Z71? My dad used to own one with the 5.7 and it lasted forever. I would love to get one, but I am not sure I could find one in good shape with my price range. Thanks again, Jason |

| everyone has their opinion on different vehicles. not sure if you can get a non biased opinion here. just what we have learned and worked with through the years. a 95 1500 is a very dependable truck and the 5.7 is a very dependable engine. my brother in law has one and has just turned over 260,000 miles on his. he drives his pretty hard. |

| Ya, I was seriously looking at getting a 95-96 Chevy 1500 with the 5.7 and 4x4, but I don't think I could afford it. I only have about $4000-$5000 to spend if my Jeep sales for the amount that I need. I really dont want to get one with over 150,000 miles at the very most. |

| It is a 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport. No mods on it, did not have enough time to do anything to it. Just fixed some things that were not up to par, like new front rotors and brake pads, and new u-joints, and a new rear brake line. Now it runs perfect, but I want a truck. I miss having the open bed. | might not be able to buy it out straight but know for fact that if you wave that much money under their nose for down payment, they will sell you anything and everything. just keep in mind not to settle for their lowest price, they can work with any figure. not sure if you are going to find what you want for that cheap, especially one that is dependable. good luck |

| I know, that is my problem. I would love a 95 or newer chevy 1500 4x4 5.7, but $5000 is just too close. I am not a big fan of the interior on the 94 and older. That is why I was looking at dodges and fords too, but deep down, I am a chevy guy. I know how it works as far as paying and that, I used to be a car salesman. Jason |

| If chevy is your route then I wouldnt settle for anything under 96 when they put the vortec's in em. You can find em with decent mileage for under 5000. Cash talks when you have it and the seller knows it.

| I had a 96 with the 5.0 Vortec, and to this day I still wish I didn't sell it, but someone offered me good $ for it, and I couldn't say no. That and it was 2WD and I needed something with 4wd or awd. If my Jeep would have sold already, I could have got a 98 with low mileage and in my price range, but the guy already sold it. If anyone is interested, I do have pics of the Jeep that is for sale, as well as pics of my truck that I sold. |
