electrical problem

i got a 1973 chevorlet c-10 pick up 350 engine the problem is when i hook the battery up the starter comes on with out the key being on,i mean the engine turns over and every thing ,i thought it might be the steering wheel coloum,but it wasnt can anyone help

if you post this in the chevy section, you will have more results. check the ignition switch or the ignition solenoid.
