canopy wiring

Hi, I just bought an 04 silverado 2500, after 20 years of fords but that's
another story. My last chev was a 79 z28 and I must say this truck reminds me of it.
I just had a canopy installed with a cargo light and brake light but they didn't actually hook up the wiring. Is there an easy way to hook this up without fear of frying some computer board? I thought it would be easy as there is a plug in the bed for a fifth wheel but there doesn't seem to be a separate power supply for the brake light, it's combined with the signal light.
Thanks.

Welcome to the site.
Go back to the place where you purchased the "canopy", camper shell, topper, or whatever you call it in your area, and purchase the wiring kit that replaces the third brake light, and cargo light located at the rear of the cab. The kit will replace the original light with a dead panel, and the wires will plug to the new lights. This will allow you to turn the cargo light on with the dash switch, and the brake light will work without modification to the wires. This is a plug and play kit, and should not take more than a 1/2 hr. to install. Good luck
