Engine for '91 B2200 Truck

I just bought one of these and the engine died. It's a 2wd, short cab. The guy I bought it from told me it had overheated and he replaced the water pump and thermostat. I took it for a good 30 min test drive. No problems. I left a deposit, drove home, pickedup g/f and went back to get truck. His bill of sale read "sold to.... and is not responsible for any future repairs". I wasn't 20min away and noticed temp gauge climbing fast. Turned on heater full blast and pulled in a 7-11 and waited till cool enough to check system. Steam from coolant overflow, but when I opened radiator cap, it was full of anitfreeze. Had it towed. Well, head was warped. It got milled and was flat. New gasket,back on motor. started up and ran for over an hour. All was good. I picked it up again, and made it home (50 mins), left home 2 days later, got miles and 'ping' no power and engine died. Pulled into a parking lot,called for a tow. Same shop where my stepson works.
Opened up the motro and found the timing belt in 2 pieces. Not just snapped, but snapped in 2 places leaving 2 pieces.

OK, time fo new engine. Everywhere we call, same story. "Wow, these are real popular right now, don't know why." best price $1400 for used, no rebuild, and 100K+ miles, plus shipping.

So, where do I get an engine cheaper and or what other engines as in size or even rotary will fit this truck? I've already been told that Ranger engines won't fit, too early a model year. Paid $1000 for truck, is it worth fixing?

Welcome to the site;
The value is really up to you. Sounds like you purchased a vehicle with known potential problems and paid accordingly. That being said, $1,400 for a used 2.2L mazda engine is insane.
I personally would not throw a used engine in there, simply because there is an "unknown factor" there, that might put you in a position to pull the engine again if omething goes wrong. That comes out of your pocket.
For a few hundred dollars more, you could buy a complete rebuilt engine with a warranty.
Here is an example:

i think the basic engine is just slightly more than that used thing that was quoted to you,
Good luck.

I'd say cut ur losses and sell it as a rolling chasis. Maybe some goofy *** will come pick it up and bag it and all the nonsense. Good luck tho. Simply my opinion.

truck

Granted, I screwed up in not noticing the wording of the bill of sale. That link to autozone comes up at $3079 and change with my zip code. Somehow, I doubt the truck is worth over $4k. Anyone know the weight of this thing? Metal recycling is about $140/ton.

Thanks for the votes.

Anyone need a truck?

Myles
