Loud irritating tick, tick, TICK!

I have 1993 b2200 auto ext cab with 90,769 miles, She has a ticking noise and gets really loud, then quiet and then back again. There is no performance loss or anything just that loud irritating tick, tick, TICK!!

I always use 10W-30! Do I need to change to 10W-40? Flushing the engine that will help?

Need advice on how to fix it.

Thank you

Do you know where the 'tick' is coming from? Might be a rocker that needs adjustment, or even the timing chain rattling around. Do not believe a heavier oil is gonna fix this (though it may cover it up, but won't fix), you are going to have to isolate the noise, and make a real repair.

there are jet valves on your truck, put the end if a screwdriver on your valve cover and isolate the noise to which cylinder, there are adjusting screws on each rocker arm to adjust the valve gap..spec should be on your hood somewhere or chiltons. if the noise continues, engine treatement is only gonna hide it for a lil while

I have the same think on my 03 GMC Seirra, but only on start up, it ticks and ticks faster with higher RPMs. After about 30-60 seconds it goes away. My truck also idles high until it warms up. The other day my engine light flashed a few times, but hasn't came on since? Does anyone have any suggestions any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm kind of new to the forum and come here for help! Have you ever heard "if you don't have nothing nice to say don't say it"? Or just don't read this post.....There is no need to be a smart @$$ when someone is asking for help. I mean isn't that what this site was created for??? I'm sure everything you've had to say on here has had great importance to all. Thanks for the help! I hope you are treated with the same respect on here.

As for 72'CaminoKid thanks for the helpful suggestions. I plan on staying around for awhile. THANKS!</SPAN>

ALL second generation Mazda Pickups have rocker tick, annoying yes, but it is something we live with. I own 4 B2200's, 2 -1989's, 1 - 1990, 1 - 1991 Cab Plus (parts truck). Tightening the HLA's is a good start, but they will loosen up again. Its a vicious circle..

Mikes96Z71 will become famous soon enough
I may be way off on this but, my 96 Silverado had an annoying sound similar to what diesels sound like. I changed the oil yesterday to the specified 5W-30 (it winter here anyways) Well the sound is gone. Talked to a friend and he said that the Vortec motors have really tight tolerances and that the dealer I bought it from this fall probably put in 10W-30 and was too thick causing the engine noise.

On a side note all my older Honda cars 89 Accord and 94 Prelude Si all have valve noise. Hondas make the ticking sound even when adjusted properly.
