Freeze Plugs

I have one, right behind water pump, starting to weep a little on my 91 B2600i. Anyone ever have one come out? I noticed several parts houses have these rubber expansion plugs that expand when the bolt is tightened. Where I live I don't think I have to worry about the coolant freezing. I prefer replacing the plug with a similar metal type.

those rubber plugs only work for a little while then you have to tighten them up again and then after you have it tight all the way you have to buy a new one. so i'm saying just get the reg. medal plug if you can they sell brass get them they a alot better and last longer than the reg ones. just my 2cents

I had one come out on an old dodge one time. Too much water in the coolant. Sat over the winter. When the snow cleared, I found it under the motor the fereeze plug. I found it after I let it run for ten minutes to move it. And no lie, the second I found it and realized what it was, sure as ****, the stupid motor siezed up. DONE. I look back now and laugh, but If I were I would fix it ASAP. LOL.

Snap on sells a tool to remove freeze plugs and go with brass but here's the BAD-BAD news once one goes out there all ready to be replaced or it's going to over heat and mess up your engine check to see if the rear of heads have plugs as well if you have to remove Transmission you might think of replacing rear main seal with OEM brand and also front seal of Transmission OEM as well. You might want to check this site as well MPVClub.com :: The Ultimate Mazda MPV and Mazda5 Online Community there is some smart members there as well.

Should have posted this sooner. The one I did about the block was the problem, 99.9 percent sure. The freeze plug is fine. Thanks for the ideas and suggestions.

Pardon me! I thought I did a post about the block on this site but it appears I didn't. Those of you with the B2600i(fuel injected), there is a passage or tube cast in the block. It goes to the back side of the water pump and is the path for coolant to flow from the pump into the block. I believe mine has a very small hair line crack that allowed coolant to seep out and run down to the freeze plug I mentioned. I covered the area several weeks ago with something called Epoxy Steel and it seems to be working so far. This stuff has a 500 degree F rating.

Good job posting that follow up. Now if the Epoxy Steel has a pressure, vibration and adhesive rating like its temp rating that would be great. Kinda scary thinking about the block just cracking open...

If the block is cracked, be sure that it is not damaged beyond repair.

So far it seems to be fine. I regularly check it and the area is dry. The stuff I used is called QuikSteel made by CarGo.
