How many miles are on your truck? It may be a tired motor. Let me research alittle bit and I'll get back to you soon what size motor do you have?

well its got 190 on the odometer but the guy i bought it from rebuilt the engine about 2500 ago. new carb and clutch, paintjob. but this jet valve is beyond me ive never dealt with anything like it. its an inline four with a single overhead cam 8 valve. I dont know of hand what the engine size is but its the base model b2200 single cab 5 speed 2wd, its an 88. chiltons tells me theres an ajustement screw for these jet valves on the rocker arms themselves, even shows a picture of the screws in the book, but they literally arent there.

Ummm.... That's strange I never trusted chiltons I always use haynes. But I'm gonna venture a guess and say that the 2200 means it's got a 2.2L motor. So if it was rebuilt 2500 ago then everything should be tight man I wish I could help you out more but man I don't know mazdas from a hole in the ground. Umm about the only thing I can honestly say it just try to get ahold of like junior or someone! I really hate to admit it but do you know any mechanics personally someone who could just have a listen or even take a quick look for free. I feel really bad because I told you this place would help and I see myself now that help is just not coming this way! I'm not saying no one else is gonna post but it's just taking awhile! I'll look around and see what I can dig up about your truck and post back within the next day for sure! Good luck and talk to you soon!

don't know anything about mazda, but i think i know what you're talking about. i tear apart a lot of small 1 cylinder hondas and they have this little cap that fits over the valve stem. i'll see if i can confirm that this is the part you are looking for.

got this off autozone:

Mine is doing the same thing. One valve rocker on #4 piston exhaust side have excessive slop. I slide a nickle under it and noise went away. I gues I need a new rocker arm. Here's another site.
AutoZone.com | Vehicle Selection - Year .I don't think ours have Hydraulic lifters. Mine is overhead cam so I don't think there are any lifters.

Ok went to wrecking yard and did good. I found out that the hydraulic lifters are in the rocker arm where they contact the valve stem. I found one for the same cylinder as mine and the rocker lifter was in good shape. I'll let you know how it goes after i install.

I installed the rocker and all is quiet. Saved myself $50! The old one looked like the lifter was fully collapsed . How it going on your end?
