Running lean

I woke up this morning at 27 degrees and my B4000 4x4 is showing me a "check engine" lite. So I stopped at auto zone after work and had them check the code. It showed that the engine was running lean. He then said that it could be lots of things including bad air filter to fuel pump. Where would you look first. Thanks for any help. Marc

Sorry, I have no idea about the Ford Engine. You might want to ask in the Ford side, they might know more, being that the B4000 is Ford Ranger.

start with a good sensor scan, it will save a lot of guessing

Check for vacuum leaks, leaking EGR valve or low fuel pressure.Just my guess.

I thought the Mazda B4000 had a Mazda engine. The year is 1998. What is a sensor scan? I have been looking for any vacuum leaks and so far none. rrrperry

it is a mazda engine but built with ford components. so it is a ford engine. leo is talking about hooking it up to a scanner, not a code reader, to read what the sensors are telling the ECM. when you say that you have been looking for vac leaks, are you doing this by eye?? looking is a good way to search for boken lines or ones that have come loose but is not reliable when it comes to small leaks.

good news guys

I bought this pickup with 97000 miles and had no history of maintance. I got out today and changed the spark plugs and the check engine lite went out. I also changed the oil, pcv, air filter and tried to change the fuel filter but found out I have to have a special tool. Thanks alot for all your help. rrrperry
