My boyfriend has a 1998 Mazda B2500 truck, it has a regular cab with a 4 cylinder engine. The past few weeks, we’ve noticed a squeaking sound when you press the gas pedal. As soon as the gas pedal is released the squeaking stops. Yesterday, he realized that it also squeaks when it's in neutral, when the gas pedal is pressed.

I forgot to mention that it doesn't squeak untill the car is warmed up, after the car has been running about 15 minutes. The squeaking isn't from the gas pedal itself but thanks for your suggestion.

by that comment, maybe we need a little more information. about where does this squekiness coming from?? inside the cab or in the engine compartment?? if from the front of the car, i was referring to the belts on the engine. specifically the alternator pulley.

It's definately not in the cab, I think my boyfriend said he thought it was in the engine or drive shaft.

Is this a manual transmission vehicle? When was the clutch last changed? The very first thing that came to mind was either an idler pulley, or the release (throughout) bearing in the transmission. If the noise is heard while the vehicle is in neutral, and the vehicle is not in motion, then we can rule out the driveshaft. Try to depress the clutch pedal to see if the noise goes away. I am kind of leaning towards the release bearing. They typically start to squeek when they are getting tired. Gonna have to poke around to see where this noise is coming from. To verify an engine related squeek, you can spray a little stream of water from a squirt bottle on various parts to detect a failing part. The water will not damage or make things worse like oil will if you spray a belt, but it will make the component silent so you can isolate the problem.

It a a manual transmission. The clutch has never been replaced and it has only 67,000 miles on it. He tested it and depressing the clutch does not make the squeak go away. He thinks it is coming from under the hood.
