New Problem, maybe

I drove this 2002 B3000 for the first time after I got all the bugs worked out and repairs done and thought I'd blow it out on the way back from the gas station and when I kicked it, it felt like the trans just disengaged and the engine sounded like it went full throttle, did it again and did the same thing. Is this what it does in O/D or is it supposed to downshift like everything else I've ever owned? it seems to do right when you take it out of overdrive but shouldn't it go into passing gear in O/d? My wife said the Eclipse she had did the same thing so she never drove it in o/d. I don't remember that myself. this would be something totally new to me if it is what its supposed to do.

I am not familiar with your trans, but it does sound like a transmission failure of sorts to me. Not normall for sure.
