water/coolant temp sensor?

I think I may have a bad water/coolant temp sensor but I am not sure. I could just go get one but they are like $58 and I would like to be sure. My understanding is that the sensor richens the fuel or something on a cold morning. The sensor has to be plugge in on cool mornings and even then it take several tries to crank but then after the truck and weather warms up, you need to un plug it. If u leave it plugged in after it warms up it may act like it wants to stall and when u hit the gas, it will blow a little smoke and u can smell fuel. I assume it is still making the truck run rich. Any thoughts.
thanks
Eric

How about the mass air sensor that's connected to the air intake pipe that leads to the throttle body from the air cleaner maybe it's loose or dirty, at least that's what I think it's called help me out guys anyone know what's it's called or did I get it right. Spray electrical cleaner on both of the connectors. Hope this helps you! GMCTRUCKS (Keep us posted).

Sensor

So should I unplug the senor at the air box(i assume it's the mass air) and then follow it to wherever it leads and then unplug it there? Then I could clean them and plug em back up. Also, what do u clean them with?
Thanks

mass air

Im not sure you can clean a air meter it works a little differently them a mass air sensor. A mass air sensor has very thin wire the measure the amount of air flow. If you have a sensor you can very carefully clean with a brake cleaner and a Q-tip... BE VERY CAREFULLY!!!!! if it is a air meter you can clean the contacts but thats not usually a fix. a mass air flow meter only lets in the air it needs. hope this helps!!!
