92 Pickup Tranny info?
Can anyone here tell me if the 92 puickup automatic transmission has adjustable bands? I just inherited a little old 92 pickup with under 80K on it, but the tranny is slipping. Any Info/ideas would be appreciated.

Welcome to the site.
I would be less concerned about that bands and more concerned about the TV cable adjustment. I believe that you have a TH700R4 (they were used until 93) and the most common problem with slippage is related to poor, or failed adjustment on the cable itself. Fluid condition is a great indicator of a burnt trans, but if this looks fine, then I would pay attention to the cable adjustment first. Might even be willing to bet this is your slippage problem. We have to remember to look at the simple and most obvious fixes first, otherwise, we end up chasing out tails so to speak. Good luck. |

Fluid flush???? Related????
Lets talk about this for just a moment. What type of fluid did you use? Was it the same as you took out? How did you flush it completely? Did you make sure that the fluid level is high enough, or at the correct level? Did you replace the filter? Did the filter stay on? If the filter was not installed properly, yuu could be getting some cavitation. This will cause the slippage. The TV cable is located on the throttle body. One cable attaches to the pedal inside of the cab, and the other attaches inside of the trans. THis is responsible for shift points, both up, and down. Most 700 failures are due to an improperly adjusted cable. |
