92 Hardbody Hey Nissan veterans Im new to the Nissan world, so if any of you guys have ran into the problem that I am having, I sure could use some help. I have a 92 Hardbody, 136,000 miles, automatic blah blah blah. Every since I have had this truck, it takes spells where the RPM's will drop and it will just die. This is a fuel injected truck (most of you already know this) and here is what I have changed because a local mechanic told me it could be the problem. I have changed the fuel filter, temperature sensor, and also the idle air control. It doesn't do it all the time. Do you guys have any ideas on what it could be? Oh yeah it is a 2.4L engine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

if it doesnt do it all the time it may just be a loose connection. have you checked your plugs and such?

Yeah I have checked most of that stuff. I feel like it may be something very simple, I just dont know where to look now. Another thing, whne it does die, I have to hit the accelerator to get it to crank back up. Most fuel injected vehicles I have ever owned, you dont have to hit it at all to crank, and I dont have to on the nissan, unless it has died on me.

then i would look more at the fuel delivery system. perhaps a bad injector. i would put it on a machine and have all diagnostic checked out. see if its running lean. when it does does it do it while your excelerating or braking?

It will normally die when braking. Like if I'm backing up and going from reverse to drive. Or if I'm slowing down for a stop sign or something. What kind of machine are you talking about hooking up to, would advance or auto zone have one. And would the truck have to be acting up for them to find the problem with the machine?

if it is doin it during braking then your rpms are dropping to low. i would bump up your rpms a tick. it may be a temp fix for your issue but eventually it will throw a code for a bad sensor. perhaps a throttle position sensor. i am not familiar with these types of engines but do know a lil about fixin them in general. you may have a weak fuel pump and it isnt getting enough gas. does it do it more when the tank is full or empty. i dunno im just tryin to sort it out as it goes. sometimes it is a looked over thing. have youir machanic do a fuel pressure check and post up the readings.

Hey guys thanks for the help so far. I messed with the truck a little bit saturday, cleaned the throttle body, replaced a vacuum hose that was really dry cracked. I also took a look at the ECM. When I first took the cover off the box, there was a green and red light flashing. The little pot switch that is on these ECM"s saysy Idle control, has a plus an minus, and if you turnj it all the way to the plus side, it says diagonistics. So I turned it over there with it running, and both lights in unison would blink once, then twice, all the way to 5 blinks. Does any body know how to read these lights. I feel like a pretty decent mechanic if I know whats going on.

| NissanNissan vehicles require accessing the factory ECU. These ECUs can be placed in five different types of diagnostic modes. For checking trouble codes, the ECU needs to be put into Mode II (Self-diagnostic results). The ECU contains a dial (potentiometer) on the side of the case. This can be accessed by unbolting the ECU, making sure the factory wiring harness is still connected. Place the vehicle in the "ON" position and turn the dial fully clockwise with a flat head screwdriver, wait 2 seconds, then turn the dial back fully counter clockwise. At this time, the check engine light should reveal the vehicle's status. Some of the ECUs will also contain a red LED that will also give flash sequences just like the check engine light. If your Nissan has a green and red LED, the sequences will read as green for digits of 10 and red for digits of one. | its reall easy i had to do it to my maxima all the time. i think the way you reset the ecu is to turn the dial clockwise wait 2 secs. then repeat that step again. it is a basica starting point and you have codes showing so you should be able to read them |
