1997 Nissan truck won't run

On my 97 Nissan truck its the 2.4 inline 4. It has been sitting for 8 months, and the other day I tried to start it, it will start run for about 10-15 seconds then die, also if you give it gas it will stall immediately. Also there is a strong smell of gas as if its running really rich. I have no idea where to start, any help would be appreciated.

Well a tune up should definalty be in the agenda ASAP!!! The plugs and wires and cap and rotor new fuel filter probably some fresh gas would be helpful too. Once you get the truck running spray a can of carb cleaner down the TB and run a bottle of injector cleaner through it! Fresh gas should be 92 octane because it's way cheaper now and burns better. I'm thinking it probably is the fuel filter as when i parked it it was running fine. Is the filter in the tank or by the engine?

I'm not 100% because I'm unfamilar with nissans but it shouldn't be in the tank. Check the frame rails... follow the fuel line from the tank to the motor if it's not on the frame rails then it'll be on the firewall. It'll look like a small can somewhat like this.
