have you checked your dizzy cap? my gmc was acting the same way, had a hairline crack in the cap..... changed it, and the rotor, and runs good now......

wyley- check eng is on, ran the codes and they come up as a fuel vent error... had it before this problem started...
batty- bought new dist cap and rotor today, planning on replacing just the cap first and rotor if problem persists... got caught up replacing the starter on the roommates jetta today... i'll never buy one just for the PITA of replacing the starter. ugh. i'll let yall know how it turns out, hopefully tomorrow! thanks again

cross your fingers...

popped off the old cap today. no damage or cracks, but i did notice two things: corrosion on the contacts (white powdery buildup, see attachment) and the button in the center of the cap seems to stick.
so, i popped in the new cap and cleaned up the rotor with an emery board. took it for a spin down the road, noticed much smoother acceleration and better throttle response... unfortunately, its not raining today so i can't tell if the problem is actually solved or not. as soon as we get some rain i'll fire it up and report back with my findings.

by the way... im a tard and cant remember how to give rep points... i got a lot of good responses and i dont wanna be a **** and just say thanks, see ya later.

it figures it rains 3 times while im working on the roommates car, but when i want/need it to, its a gorgeous day with no clouds in sight. stupid weather.
