| The amont of cam shafts an engine has does not tell what transmission it has to have. The bolts on the bell housing need to line up would be good to start but the big thing is the computer needs to talk to that certain trans and if it isn't new enough of a trans reguardless the over drive or not it won't work. Plus the type of trans counts to, the car trans may have a different tail shaft and will not work. Most likely your out of luck for them to swap across. To many variables.

| the 240 and the hardbody share the same engines... other than that, i'm not sure. i know that the MANAUL transmissions for the DOHC and SOHC 240's are interchangeable... a buddy of mine has both.. Automatic, I'm not so sure... besides, would a tranny from a car perform well in a truck? wouldnt the gearing be different?

| I agree about the gearing. But the demension of the trans would make me think not. I would think the output shafts would have different splines and a tail shaft???

| swap in a 5 speed manual from a 240. guaranteed to work and your little pickup will be a land rocket. you could even turn it into a drift machine.

| Yuck !!! an Auto trans with a 4 Popper??? I'm with lukas, if you can do a conversion to a 5 speed do it. Big difference in getting what little power you have to the ground.
