Question Need Info on 88 Hardbody

I have an 88 hardbody thats bone stock and plan to do some upgrades(interior, exterior, engine etc). Where can I get all the info on the engine, trans, etc. I know it says Z24 on the air filter element. Please can somebody point me in the right direction.

if you want info on the tranny and the engine, its best to take the casting numbers off of each and look them up. the rearend should have a tag on it i believe. dont know what all you want to know about but that will get you started.

Ok I'll get the numbers in the morning and I'll be back. I just want to make the engine allittle faster the usual bolt ons headers, exhaust ,electric fan and water pump etc. and chrome out the exterior etc. I'm just working up a game plan.

thats been one of the smartest things any one has said on the site. youll have to look up the numbers because i know i dont have a castings numbers book and the others here might not have a book.

well I pretty much got what I needed to know. rearend is HF37 and is there anyway I can make it posi? I have a 2wd. My transmission is fs5w71c but really nothing to do to that but change fluid I think. Engine is a Z24i I guess some bolt ons will do the trick. But got a quick question My check engine just came on and I have a chilton manual and found out about self dignosting so I tried but couldn't figure it out both lights keep flashing instead red then green for the codes. Has anybody try the self digno.?

never tried self diagnos. find someone with a OBD1 computer or a OBD2 that can read older models. i dont know what tranny or rearend you have but you can do alternate things with that rearend. theres alot of stuff you can do with trannys also. do some research and it will surprise you.
lets have some pics.

i wouldn't do that, when you go to start the truck it could lurch forward and hit something.

i'm assuming your truck has a manual tranny, if so i couldn't tell you, never had to replace one. if you tranny is automatic then the switch should be at the bottom of your steering column. just put it in neutral after setting the e-brake and the switch should come right out. just don't by-pass it if it is manual tranny, if you forget to take it out off gear or hold the brake you could do some damage to someone or something.
