Axle not "true"? What does that mean?

I have a horse trailer that the tire tread wears on the inside a whole lot more than the outside tread. They are properly inflated and the last guy to look at it said that maybe the axle wasn't "true" or "trued". What does that mean, and can it be fixed?

sounds like the axle is bowed down when loaded, are you over loading it?

No, it's not overloaded. I only haul 1 horse, and it's made to haul 4.

doing it on both side's ? the axle is probably bent and or one spindle is bent ,they build the trailers pretty light now a day's ,barely make weight spec's ,and just snag one wheel on a curb hard and it's done . their is no quick way other than replacing the axle ,once they bend they can go right back .

does the trailer track to one side as you go down the road?? i have had some that were untrue and tracked indicating that the mounting for the axles didnt line up with the trailer. a bent axle is the other possibility like they said.
a simple test you can do. jack each wheel up and clean the dirt off the tire. rattle can of white to the center while turning the tire and then take a blade screwdriver and make a small line while spinning the tire also. stop the wheels and let it off the jack. with a GOOD and RELIABLE tape measure, measure from line to line that you made. this is a very crude way to tell if you have a bent axle but has worked for me in the past. the two measurements that you get from top and as close to the bottom that you can get, should be the same or real close.

when you look at the axle is the arc pointing to the floor of the trailer,as it should, or the ground?
