Riding mowers I want a riding mower. Or at least I think I do. My lot has a bit of a slope to it so I wonder if a mower can pull itself and my ponderous bulk up the hill too. I know nothing about lawn tractors or riding mowers but am sure that I would want to use it for leaves and to bag grass clippings too. I started looking at them used on Craigs list. I'm thinking that if I like it I can sell it on and get a new one later and if I don't then I'm not out as much money as I would be if I bought new. What features and brands have worked out well for you folks?

i have a Huskee. has been wonderful in the rough terrain that i call a yard. JD is a great tractor also. just more expensive of parts when they start going out. the parts used to make it shift from one gear lacks alot though. neighbor has a cub cadet that you couldnt give me. mine is 3 years older and runs/cuts twice as good. alot of people say that murray is a cheap mower. it is but i see alot more of these that are aincient and still being used. snapper is awesome. more of an heirloom type item because it will be handed down to your kids and then again to their kids. i forget what grade they say you cant mow at but depending on which way you attack the hill, you will have no problems. if you are worried about bulk, this this in mind. my 22hp will carry me and drag a 6ft by 6ft piece of chainlink with tires and cinder blocks on it all over the yard with no problem.

hey z07, i have a 96 JD 17 hp, i have some sloped areas on my property and it cuts and carries me ( 240 #) just fine. as for using it for leaves it didn't work for me. the bags would fill up quickly and it was a pain. i ended up get a stihl back pack blower, that works great, and it's kind of fun to use.

Honda makes good mowers but parts are outrageously expensive.
