they're not pop-ups. it junk from google and other sites that pay to advertise on the forums. yes, this isn't the only forum i go to for information.

it's junk like the sparkly banner at the top of the page that say you're the 1,000,000,000,000 visitor, click me to claim your prize. i hate it and it needs to go away.
Unfortunately, not an easy way to block those. They're built-in to the site. That's how most sites generate revenue to pay for their web hosting costs, especially the Google-Ads ones.

Just gotta train your brain to ign...... LOOK SOMETHING SHINY ...... ore them.

they're not pop-ups. i have never had a pop-up get past my laptop in over two years. IE-8 does a fantastic job at that.

they are permanent ads on websites and they slow my computer down. i couldn't care less if they are there. it's the fact that they are a parasite to my computer that bugs me.

no way that I know of to get rid of those ads, not unless they take it off the actual site.

If you have any sort of firewall on computer or router,
look to blocking the sites the ads actually come from.

like in my recent thread for the bike question
the general site is
http://www.truckforum.org

the off-topic forum is
http://www.truckforum.org/forums/off-topic

and the actual picture of the bike comes from
http://www.truckforum.org/forums/attachments

the avatars come from
http://www.truckforum.org/forums/avatars

You don't have to block the whole site
you can be as specific as you like.

for example:

i don't want to block the site, just their annoying blinking, flashing, sparkly banner ads people pay to put on that site.

i know it's possible.

Two questions:
1) How did you achieve that ?
2) What were YOU doing on THAT thread ?
