| Woot! A couple weeks ago my g/f started asking what I wanted for my birthday at the end of August. Her idea was maybe a three day weekend at the beach so I could get in some serious kite flying. Instead, I told her I'd rather stay home and just put the money towards a good BBQ grill. We bought this house last year, and it's got a nice deck with an area built specifically for a grill, but we didn't own one. This morning before going to work she told me to go pick one out and buy it. Yes! This, of course, brings up that age old dilemma that has caused more fights, bad feelings, outright feuds and just general ranting than anything else known to man... Gas or Charcoal? Let the debate begin...

| gas for simple fast cooking, but charcoal for the flavor. throw some soaked (your favorite wood) sticks on the coals while you're cooking, yum.

| Well, considering the BBQ will be on a wood deck I'm leaning towards gas (LP) because there's less of a fire hazard. I replaced a deck on a client's house once when their hibachi got knocked over and set the old deck on fire. Not pretty. I do like the flavor charcoal gives though.

| mine is on a wooden deck, but i know how to cook with it also. mine cant be knocked over, believe me. i do have a gas burner mounted on the side of my pit though for fish frys or potato wedges. it is an acquired skill though getting the temps right especially when you upgrade to the smoker. mine is rigged as a pit but i can smoke on it if i so choose to. benefits of building your own. |

| Gas for the neighborhood gatherings (dogs & Burgers) but nothing compares to good old charcoal grilling when it comes to a good steak. So my answer is BOTH.
