Unhappy Home A/C problems again.

Well I haven't been on much lately because I haven't been at home for the reason is my home A/C compressor shelled out and the place I bought it from can't get to it till tomorrow/Thursday and it's going to cost me $885.00 dollars just for the labor and drier/freon and that's because the compressor is still under warranty imagine what it would have cost me if not.
Sad GMC!

you need to put the house on wheels so you can get the good old 265 air, thats what I use right now. it is cost effecient and works good. 2 windows at 65mph. Thinking I might upgrade to 285 with a escort seeing as how it is always over 100* here.

the last compressor i bought and replaced costs me 600 bucks. 30lb jug of 22 is roughly 200 bucks. filter drier is 20 bucks. depending on size of system and length of line set, i can usually fill 4 to 5 systems out of 1 30 lb jug.
gmc, you might want to learn how to do AC work if its costing you that much. 900 is BS considering how much they dont have in parts.

I'm back but only for a while no A/C yet it's rained today also im looking for another tech to do the work like I wrote Brad/guys the compressor is under warranty I don't know where this guy is coming up with $885.00 dollars yes prayers would help right now.
Thanks! GMC
PS-Also thanks for the LOVE.

Brad it can't be that high even if he charges $100.00 an hour. Now it's a Goodman 4 ton unit and I bought it in 2001 and the warranty is good for ten years. I say it would take 3 hours of labor that's $300.00 at the most plus the drier is another $30.00 bucks now that's high also $200.00 for the freon so that would leave $355.00 for what I can't figure it out. Oh I know that now the charge $75.00 dollars to return the compressor but even that would leave $280.00.

that is why i call BS. way too much for what you are getting, unless there is another problem somewhere. changing a compressor can be somewhat difficult at times. the 5 ton compressor i changed out the first of the summer took about 1 hour to do. 2hrs total for evacuating the system, changing the compressor and charging it back up. 3 hours for someone that doesnt do it often. if he is for real, he should be faster than that. ask for a breakdown of the quote.
dont let him BS you about the freon either. they will continue to make 22 for the next 3 1/2 months and will still be available on the shelves well into next year. so for the excuse of that 22 is now rare and expensive, BS.
i just bought a 3 1/2 ton unit, brand new with freon in it for $1000.

Sounds BS that something under waranty would cost. But I understand how they get ya. Compressor is "warranteed" but all the other isn't.

Ours went out right before summer hit. Hung a packing blanket in the hall and the back two bedrooms have new window units. All the HIGH quotes bummed us out to say the least!

First of the year new type of coolant comes out plus our system is an out dated 10 sear. Replace the heat pump with a new unit then if inside air handler breaks do that OR wait til we can afford one package unit.

NOT that Florida EVER gets warm!
