| I am needing to replace the lower intake gasket on a GM 3.1L. I know to do this that the push rods need to come out(I also know they are different lengths) So that leads me to believe the valve covers need to come off so the question is "Do the valve covers need to come off?" I am only asking cause my father in law has only given me a intake gasket kit, which did not come with valve cover gaskets. THANKS for any 411 that can be given.

| they have a rubber gasket on them, usually they will reseal, but you can buy them seperate if needed.

| I think I'll suggest a new set of valve cover gaskets, cause they are leaking as well.

| Reason for Thread So the blue is the LOWER INTAKE and the pink is the actual head. I think you can see why I ask if the covers have to come off. ![]() Forgot to shrink one of the photos oops

| looks like you understand it. use a torque wrench, notice the need for RTV, at the lower intake by the head, and for the valve covers actually if i remember correctly the china wall is all RTV

| In the third pic you can see where the gasket acts as a push rod "guide/retainer" so my new question is does the push rods need to be pulled first or can I pull the intake and then the push rods?
