as much as i hate vista, the computer had driver problems i didn't want to mess with and vista was the only thing i had laying around. the computer is maybe 5 years old. i think i need to upgrade the video card? it's only temporary until my sister gets her laptop back from the computer hospital.

first you should have wiped it and install windows 7, much better than vista
It looks like your computer is running in safe mode, or the pixels need to be set up under display

You're using a resolution combination that either the monitor or the video card don't fully support. Try a basic 1024x768 with 32k and see what happens, and set the refresh for 72hz.

If that fails, you're probably going to have to start looking for better druvers for the card.

did that and did a online driver update.
i'm thinking monitor, cause it looks older than the cpu.

It could be a bad monitor, but I tend to doubt it. What's it look like if you set the refresh to 60? Or let it auto adjust?

How about 800x600?

Interlaced vs non-interlaced?

inter what?????.
800x600 is fine, it's just huge and you have to side scroll.
computer is not in front of me, left it at sisters house to run an update and service pack install. maybe i'll get lucky and one of those will fix it.

What about the hertz? Not sure if they effect the image though just the refresh rate. If not that then I would say your monitor or drivers are screwy.
