| I have a home made BBQ pit made out of stainless steel well the only part that's regular metal is the legs that im taking to a man to fix it up for me because they need help but I was thinking of adding a smoke box now I have a small beer keg do you guys think that I can use it without it poisoning us since I think it's aluminum? Or is it stainless? Thanks! GMC PS-The pit is square like and it was used in WW-2 to sterilize things it has this pump pedal to lift the lid and another one to lower it. When cooking chicken I just place a small amount of charcoal in one corner and in 1.5 hours it's golden brown I don't even have to turn it over I LOVE MY PIT. My brother and I made it back in the mid seventies. |

| Some of those aluminum kegs have plastic liners in them, so I'd want to check that before using it for any kind of cooking. Also remove any plastic or rubber seals. Other than that, so long as you don't let it get hot enough to melt I think it'd be fine.

| gmc all kegs are made of aluminum so i would look at some other objects to add as a fire box.

| you'd have to have a serious fire to melt aluminum.. Don't know that I'd make a fire box out of it though. it tends to oxidize pretty easy. if you can find a stainless keg that would be the way to go.

| I'm going to have the older man that's going to work on it tell me for sure I think it's stainless and I would like to keep it all stainless because it retains the heat very good. Thanks guys for all your answers. Leo this keg is a small one is yours small? GMC PS-After I get it back im going to post some pictures or a video of it so you guys can see how the lid opens it's real cool. |

| dont use the aluminum. you are going to find it hard to cook with versus that steel pit you currently have. different metals are going to cook different ways and aluminum is going to be difficult to cook with. |
