Internet Speed

Talking about internet speed is this a decent speed? What is the difference between upstream and downstream?

i believe downstream is downloading speed. upstream would be uploading. as for those speeds, its hard to tell. i think i am running 4mbps which would be like 4000 kbps, i think.

i have the little box that sits beside the computer. DSL through ATT. there is no such thing as cable or fiber in the county woods. if you want to get down to it, there is no cell phone coverage out there either, no matter who the carrier.

Like weakest link in chain, bottlenecks count.
My hardwired computers talk to each other at 100
My "wireless" talk at 50
My routers upstream at 10
I type at 0.0002. (sigh)

You ever want to see how fast your connection is, go to www.2wire.com . On the top of the home page, click speed meter. I am on DSL and just came back with 2.41Mbps (megabytes per second) Not bad for the slower $15 month service.

My hardwireds talk at 1000 (Gigabit) w/ Gigabit Ethernets and Rounter. My laptop, Dell D630, is also Gigabit hardwired, but yes the g wireless is a bit slower but still good.

What I use to Brad. At&t DSL. I am suprised you have DSL in the country. My dad is still on Dial up. Been trying to get him to go Satallite Broadband. Its slowly coming down on price for a change.

we just lucked out that ATT is taking over our county, for lack of better words. they put in a substation out in our neck of the woods so it worked out just right. big difference from the 56K that we used to have. lightning fast downloads at 22kbps. going to youtube was failure waiting to happen. waiting, waiting, and waiting.
