What helps is they "know" most of the people they encounter day to day and can adjust how they come across based on knowing who is/isn't a trouble maker. Back home I went to school in a town with like 3 cops. If you were in HS and you f'd up they would pull you over, read you the riot act then start talking about how the football team would do that Fri. You were let off with a verbal warning followed by a "Don't make me have to talk to your parents about this" and YES they knew your parents by face and name!!! In a bigger town nearby I remember one time I was running late (WAY PAST curfew at my parents house) I was wizzing through town WELL over the speed limit. A cop car sitting off the main drag fliped his lights on and off and hit the siren ONCE. I SLOWED WAY DOWN!! ![]() The NEXT day at church a cop in uniform that attended came up to me after services and said quietly "Running a little late last night?" ![]() I feel in most cases(NOT in lonesome's) people as a whole have a problem with LEO's because they usually only interact with them when they are doing their jobs and pulling someone over. People don't view it as they are in the wrong and the cop is trying to keep EVERYBODY (including them) safe. ![]()

| Normally I would agree that the area out side of major towns are like that. But it does nto seem the case up here. I want to be a cop in a small town for the reason you just mentioned. I know most people of complain about cops have done something to get them noticed by them. I hate to say it, but sometimes those people have a point. Not always by any means not even close. But every now and then they have a legit complaint.

| What I like that shows LEOs are human/people too is when they pull someone over (for no apparent reason) that is driving a nice vehicle (it's happned to my friend several times and others I know) and when they get up to the door tell you to put your papers and ID away and start talking shop about what you're driving! People driving by 20 minutes later wondering why he is so PO'd at you. ![]() Even funnier if he calls a friend or 2 to look. ![]() ![]() ![]() NOW the looky lous are trying to see your face and if you'll be on America's Most Wanted. ![]()

| hey bud, i can answer this and hopefully provide a pretty good view of it for you. for starters, many of the officers in columbus chose to be officers bc they didnt know anything else to do, didnt want to go to college for 4 years or longer. and its easier in their eyes for this. the same with our firemen. also, columbus has a long standing history of being way under staffed as far as patrol officers, and they are all under paid. this leads to officers being responsible for way more time / area than they are physically capable of and doing it for unfair wages. last but certainly not least, due to the demographics of our community, the officers are not viewed as friends by the majority of our town. and the very left wing newspaper which for the most part controls our towns media, is always taking up for the groups against the police and government. it constantly prints stories downgrading city / police action and policy. for examples ( look up kenneth walker or frank lumpkin, 2 seperate events).... this for the most part gives the officers an us against them kind of ideology. while the department does not have policies supporting this, as individual officers, many have adopted this feeling, most of them without even knowing it, just something that happened.

| Those are very good points. It is tough to stay away from the us verses them mentality especially if the leadership is not backing their people as much as they should. I have certainly seen the liberal mentality out here. I cannot beleive this is a southern town. Other than Atlanta I have not seen any other parts fo GA being like this. You know I just realized I have been home for a couple of months now and we have not met up yet. We should link up at Burts one night next week.

| I went to traffic court there three times. The Judge finally told the shift surperviser (who just happened to be in the court room that day) to have his people stop writing me citations. I got hit every time I went through there on my way home to Florida. I guess because my truck was big and got a lot of attention. Every time I made that cop look like he or she did not know how to do their job. I will not fight a citation if I did something wrong, but every time they wrote me one, they were wrong. Albany was my first taste on sub standard Law Enforcement. I hear north of ATL the Law Enforcement standards improve quite a bit. I agree about the next couple of weeks. I am running around trying to get this academy stuff going.

| I just watched 10 episodes(a whole season) of "The Academy" Yesterday and today on Fox reality. It's the LA sheriffs training facility if you haven't watched it. Pretty cool insight!
