What is up with the cops in this part of the country?

I feel the need to vent. I have always been an advocate for respecting Police Officers because they have such a dangerous and thankless job. Considering I am taking the entrance exam on Monday to get into the Police academy, I think it is clear I do have an enormous respect for them myself. Well, for the professional Law Enforcement Officers any way. I was raised on a Law Enforcement family, becoming a cop is all I have really wanted. All the Law Enforcement Officers I have been friends with over the years and had known back home were professional and good cops. They did not flaunt their power or use their job to make up for other inadequacies. All I have seen so far in GA and AL are the other end of the spectrum. They are the kind of cops I hope to NEVER be. Even the few I have almost become friends with up here disgusts me with the way they view their job. I know every agency has bad cops that is just basic group dynamics. I also know the majority of Law Enforcement Officers nationwide are professional and do their job with pride and a respect for the community. It is very unfortunate that the majority of LEO’s I have seen in this area are not like that at all. I cannot help but wonder if the training standards in this area are reflective of the behavior I have witnessed.
I do have to say, once back when I was having doubts about a career in law a very good friend told me he saw it has a challenge to prove there are indeed good cops out there and it was a challenge he welcomed. That statement got me back on track with my dream of becoming a professional Law Enforcement Officer.

Good for you on the exam and good luck in passing!

My GF goes to orientation this Thursday!

Where did you decide on going to school?( I haven't been around much for a while so haven't been keeping up)

as far as LEOs around here they seem a little more cold than back home.

Use to give the one finger(NOT THE MIDDLE) wave with your hand on the steering wheel and they'd give one back or nod.

Down south near Miami I met some cool town cops in Halandale and Coral Gables(SP?). I have YET to meet a trooper that wasn't a tool.(perhaps why they are called State D**Ks)

When I was in Florida I knew many good cops. There, the good out weighed the bad. And before any one says anything, no I am not having run ins with law enforcement. Well, I did have on with an off duty cop today that was uncalled for. That one pushed me too far. He was a complete *** fo rno reason at all. There is no excuse for jumping into something with out knowing the whole story and throwing threats.

I am going to go the the Academt up here. I just cannot raise enough money to go to the one in Florida first.

not that there has been or will be any on this thread, but for the record, cop bashing will not be allowed on this forum and will have it's punishments. keep it clean guys.

I agree, I do not want to see cop basjing either. I just want a better understanding of why this area does not produce a larger number of proffessional Law Enfocement Officers.

I second what SHD says. I was taking some money out of my banks ATM machine today when I said hello to these cops and thanked them for putting there lives on the line each day for us they both said thanks and one said say that's a nice looking truck I said remember it and don't stop me he started laughing it was funny.

See, that is how the relationship between the public and Law Enforcement should be.

I had a lot as freinds when I lived in Florida. The standards down there are much higher. That is one reason being a cop in Texas appeals to me so much. I hear they not only have high standards but the public respects them becuase of it.
