| Don't need a fireproof safe, throwing the cd/dvd's inder the bed protects them from viruses. For long term storage and protection against fire and theft, bag them, place in tupperware, bury in yard. Also protects from EMP attacks. |

| Yep, even if you do not want to burn to DVD, those USB memory stick come in 8 gig and bigger now and you can find them on sale occsioanlly for $20 or so. My gun vault is good for up to I beleive it was 1800 degrees and the door has a magnetic seal so no smoke can get in either. I keep back up hard drives in there, car titles, marriage licenses, insurance cards, homeowners insurance policy and 5 day supply of medication in my gun safe. Something bad happens I should have everything covered.

| I do have back up of back ups too. I keep the XP utiltiy back up that I do monthly, in my gun vault in my office, and also back up to docs and QB Pro daily both to another folder on the HDD, and the memory stick. Now I do not do it as often, maybe once every 3-4 months and have even gone 6 months, I have Norton Ghost back ups and they are in a fireproof safe in the garage bolted to the floor. But yes, they are all in one location. In my house. Funny you mention that. Back years ago what I used to do, and my mother still does, since I suggested it. Anything of value, we took pics of, scanned the recipts, and made an Excel inventory list of itmes in our homes. We'd make 2 copies minimum on CD. Then we would trade disks. So I have a copy of my own inventory, and a copy of hers at her house. And vice versa. Should house be leveled by tornado, or fire, she has a copy to show the insurance company. I got that idea about in 96. It paid off well since her house was devastated in in the May 99 tornado F5+. Yep, I live in the city where the highest wind speed every recorded on earth was recorded. The exact spot is less than 2 miles from here as the crow flies.
